While I just about perfectly agree with you on 17 of your 18 explanations, I do differ on diet sodas: People do not gain weight from drinking them, but from vastly overestimating how many calories they saved though consumption.

Also, outside of megadoses, aspartame, sucralose etc. so far haven't been shown to cause adverse effects. Studies coming to that conclusion (eg. Ramazzini) were found to lack in fundamental scientific principles.
