When it comes to achieving your fitness and weight loss goals, the pen may be the most powerful (and inexpensive) tool you can find. Keeping a journal in which you record what you eat, what and how much you exercise and the state of your outlook and mood will keep you conscious and aware of your progress, setbacks and patterns.
If you need more reasons to keep a journal, check out the 10 benefits listed by Jacqueline D. Stanley, Chief Encouragement Officer for Lettuce is Not Enough: The Place to Learn How to Live Well and Lose Weight.
You can purchase a ready-made journal, or you can create your own using a simple notebook. You can write notes by hand (my preference), or you can create an online journal. If you go online, you can decide if you want the entries to be public or private. Whatever means you choose, be sure to include the act of journaling in your arsenal of weapons as part of your campaign to achieve optimum health and fitness.
